Broadway Candy, NYC

Broadway Candy was an old-fashioned New York candy store, which functioned as part ‪#‎newsstand‬ and part lunch and soda fountain shop. It sold everything from newspapers, magazines, stationery, school supplies, ‪#‎candy‬, bread, cigarettes, soda, cigars and ‪#‎beer‬. People would stop in on their way to work with their kids before dropping them off at school and buy penny candy for the kids and newspapers and ‪#‎coffee‬ for themselves. Kids would go after school to buy soda fountain drinks and candy. There are not too many of these classic stores left these days, replaced by modern convenience stores like 7-11. We love the variety of products on display in this ‪#‎store‬ and you can see from the price of ‪#‎cigarettes‬ how old this 35mm film photo is.
