J.J. Hat Center on Fifth Avenue by 31st Street was founded in 1911 and is the last surviving family-owned hat store still in business from the early 1900s when 48 different hat 🎩 shops existed in New York City. Yesterday, we visited @jjhatcenternyc and spoke with the owner, Aida O’Toole and store employee Ligardy @ligardy_hats about this historic business and what hats 🧢 are the most popular sellers today.
One of the shops most popular selling brands years ago was the Italian Borsalino & they even had a neon “Borsalino” sign installed on their storefront ( photo taken 10 years ago) but in more recent years, the American Stetson brand has been popular and they updated their neon signage (swipe left for 7Th photo of how the #storefront looks today).
