Corner Bistro on W. 4th at Jane Street in the West Village is housed in a building which was originally erected in 1827-1828. It has been operating as a bar since before Prohibition.
When we took this photo in 2010 and interviewed the owner Bill O’Donell for our book “New York Nights” he told us that luck and timing was instrumental in his decision to fully purchase the business (he was initially only a partner in the 1960s) and to change the format of the bistro to sell great hamburgers using a perfect butcher mix for the meat and grilling method.
To this day, @cornerbistrony is still known for its great burgers.
