Lismore Hosiery Co. on Grand Street in the Lower East Side, NYC

Lismore Hosiery Co. On Grand Street in the Lower East Side was in business for over 68 years before it closed in 2005. The owners lost their lease when the building the shop was located in was sold to a condo developer. When we took this #analog photo in 2004 we always admired the #storefront outdated window displays and its #handpainted #signage. The saddest part about the story is that after the new condo building opened a Subway sandwich 🥪 franchise occupied the ground floor where Lismore once stood (swipe left for “after” photo. When wonderful #momandpop businesses such as Lismore close, the character and uniqueness of the neighborhood suffer. That is one of the reasons why we are creating a public art installation inside Seward Park in a few weeks,”Mom-and-Pops of the L.E.S.” The purpose of our sculptural storefront installation will be to raise awareness of the importance of mom-and-pop shops.

Please visit our Kickstarter campaign page to help us raise funds for our “Mom-and-Pops of the L.E.S” sculptural installation. See link in bio to donate or visit: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1581279891/mom-and-pops-of-the-les-public-art-installation
