The Sixth Street Community Center was founded by local Loisaida residents to help bring youth and community residents together through a variety of programs including after school and summer camps, sustainable agricultural programs, tenants rights and entitlement advocacy, and life skills and career development for teens. The Community Center is housed in a former abandoned synagogue which was purchased and renovated by the Sixth Street block association.
