One of our friends told us that he was wearing “The Flash” costume to a Halloween 🎃 party

One of our friends told us that he was wearing “The Flash” costume to a Halloween 🎃 party he was attending this evening and it reminded us of this #divebar in Queens that we documented a number of years ago with 35mm #film. We loved its simple but symmetrical #storefront and its vintage #neonsign.

 • • In the spirit of Halloween, we just finished filming a special Haunted Halloween 👻 /Dia De Muertos episode for our JamesandKarla YouTube channel, which we will upload in the next day or so, but in the meantime you can watch our video of the 29th annual Tompkins Square Halloween Dog 🐶 Parade and see all the amazing and creative #halloween dog costumes we captured.

Jolson’s Liquors on 31st Street which has been in Astoria, Queens for 85 years celebrates Halloween 🎃 with a beautifully holiday decorated window display.

Sadly, this liquor store was forced to relocate to a smaller location a few blocks away and could not being their gorgeous #neonsign with its cursive #font with them.

Photography and video from our visit to the Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade for 6sqft...

#Howloween

Full article: https://www.6sqft.com/photos-see-the-best-costumes-from-this-years-tompkins-square-park-halloween-dog-parade/

"Some were spooky, others political, all were adorable. The 29th annual Tompkins Square Park Halloween Dog Parade took place last Sunday, bringing together hundreds of New Yorkers and their furry friends from all over New York City. While the parade is no longer really a parade nor held at Tompkins Square Park, the event remains one of the year’s best. Photographers James and Karla Murray witnessed first hand the canine costumes and shared with 6sqft photos of the cutest and most creative choices, including the ultimate winners: two Yorkshire terries as Snoopy and the Red Baron."

Whiskers Holistic Petcare is also featured in our latest YouTube video highlighting this year's Halloween Dog Parade.

Full video: https://youtu.be/RpeVFEmTboM

Since the #tompkinssquarehalloweendogparade event was not held at its founding place in the East Village, we also visit Tompkins Square Park and its amazing dog run, New York City's "First Dog Run" located at East 9th Street between Avenue A and Avenue. After having a delicious cup of coffee at nearby, Boris & Horton, New York City's first dog cafe, #borisandhorton we walk to Holistic Petcare by Whiskers on East 9th Street by Second Avenue.

This #holistic petcare shop was founded in 1988 with the mission to bring the benefits of holistic wellness concepts for pets to the public. We go inside with Hudson and meet and speak with the owner, Randy Klein, who not only gives advice on which products and course of action can help your pet but also offers a wide selection of unique non-toxic and hypoallergenic, naturally preserved foods, treats and toys. Hudson of course gets some treats from Randy and we also purchase a box of healthy animal crackers to bring home with us for him to enjoy later.

To see the interior of the shop and their amazing selection of #holistichealth items for your pets, please watch and subscribe to our YouTube channel.

Our latest YouTube video: Halloween Dog Parade & Dog-friendly Spots NYC is now live on our JamesandKarla channel!

We attend the 29th Annual Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade with our rescue dog Hudson and watch from start to finish and meet and talk to many of the contestants and dog winners! We also visit a few dog-friendly spots in the east Village. The Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade is the largest costume parade in the world and this year was held at the East River Park Amphitheater located along the East River at Grand Street in the Lower East Side on Sunday, October 20th. Hundreds of dogs in costumes attended and thousands of spectators watched as some of the most creative, cutest, conceptual and elaborate costumed pups paraded by. Over a thousand dollars in prize money provided by Petco was bestowed upon the best-dressed dogs. We highlight all the winners including Four Honorable Mentions and Six Top Prizes including Best in Show. Since this year's Halloween Dog Parade was not held at its founding place in the East Village because of anticipated attendance, we walk to Tompkins Square Park and go inside its amazing dog run, New York City's "First Dog Run" located at East 9th Street between Avenue A and Avenue B. We also visit with our dog Hudson, New York City's first dog cafe, Boris & Horton, located on Avenue A at the corner of East 12th Street, just down the street from Tompkins Square Park. You can go inside this coffee shop and event space with your dog and enjoy coffee, tea and an vegetarian menu while your dog gets to roam around free and meet other dogs and enjoy dog treats. Hudson had so much fun making new "dog" friends and relaxing inside this unique cafe. After having a delicious cup of Boris Blend drip and Hudson enjoyed a "ghost" dog treat at Boris & Horton, we walk to Holistic Petcare by Whiskers on East 9th Street by Second Avenue. This shop was founded with the mission to bring the benefits of holistic wellness concepts for pets to the public. We go inside with Hudson and meet and speak with the owner who not only gives advice on which products and course of action can help your pet but also offers a wide selection of unique non-toxic and hypoallergenic, naturally preserved foods, treats and toys. Photography and YouTube video from our Autumn visit to the Union Square Greenmarket for 6sqft...

Full article with link to our @jamesandkarla youtube channel: https://www.6sqft.com/photos-take-a-fall-foray-through-the-union-square-greenmarket/

"When the Union Square Greenmarket opened in 1976 as GrowNYC’s second-ever market, there were only seven farmers set up. At the time, the area was quite empty and crime-ridden, but the market, along with the opening of Danny Meyer’s Union Square Cafe and a major renovation by the city in the ’80s, is credited with turning Union Square into the vibrant hub that we now know."

We visited Union Square Greenmarket in our latest YouTube video and we couldn't help but notice the shuttered iconic Coffee Shop on the west side of Union Square

We visited Union Square Greenmarket in our latest YouTube video (Full video: https://youtu.be/pvM0twjONfg) and we couldn't help but notice the shuttered iconic Coffee Shop on the west side of Union Square, which was sadly forced to close last year after nearly 30 years in business due to a high rent increase and rising expenses. It was just confirmed that a Chase Bank branch will be moving into the space along with another location of the fast-casual vegan spot by CHLOE.

The large overhanging #neonsign “COFFEE SHOP BAR” still remains and we hope that the new tenants preserve this #neon gem!

Dairy Crest Frozen Custard🍦 & Ice Cream Cakes vintage neon sign made a brief appearance on 14th Street in the East Village after being uncovered when the #storefront which occupied the space vacated recently but sadly this #neonsign is now gone.
