Capitol Restaurant in Inwood (Upper Manhattan).

This #diner has been in business since the 1920s and retained some of its original interior including a tin ceiling and stainless stool seating alongside the lunch counter when we photographed it in 2004 for our book “Store Front: The Disappearing Face of New York”. We loved its interior as well as its vintage #signage.

Sadly, we just heard from one of our followers that it just recently closed. We have lost so many old-school diners in NYC in the past few years as they operate on very slim profit margins and can’t absorb large rent increases.
