White Horse Tavern in the West Village, which has been in business since 1880, is one of the many bars which we feature in our book “Great Bars of New York City”.
Not only is it one of the oldest continuously operating pubs in New York City, which even operated as a speakeasy during Prohibition, it also is remarkable in that it is located in one of the few wood frame structures remaining in New York City and also has much of its original interior.
