Last night on Christmas Eve, we walked through Little Italy 🇮🇹 in lower Manhattan which was once known for its large population of Italian immigrants who first settled in the area during the 1850s. By the 1920s, the neighborhood of Little Italy occupied an area roughly bounded to the north by West 4th Street and Houston Street, to the east by the Bowery, to the south by Canal Street and to the west by Greenwich Village, which also had a large Italian settlement.
Today, much of Little Italy has become part of Chinatown and Italian-owned small businesses are centered on Mulberry Street between Broome and Canal Streets.
