Debbie Harry’s 77th birthday yesterday

In honor of Debbie Harry’s 77th birthday yesterday (she was born on July 1, 1945) we are highlighting Globe Slicers on the Bowery where in the early part of their career, three members of the band Blondie including Debbie Harry, Chris Stein, and Gary Valentine lived in a loft space located on one floor of the three-story building at 266 Bowery, above Globe Slicers, which has been in business since 1947. @christein has said that the entire rent for the building was around $300/month. The loft became the band’s unofficial headquarters and where @blondieofficial would also rehearse.
Globe Slicers specializes in sales and repairs of slicing machines, mixers, meat grinders, scales and saws 🪚. When we interviewed the 2nd-generation owner for our book “Store Front II-A History Preserved” (swipe left for 2nd photo of Dan inside the shop) he told us that even though his family owns the building, business has declined greatly due to the poor economy especially since they rely heavily on supplying restaurants and so many restaurants have closed in recent years.
Happy birthday Debbie Harry as we are huge fans (swipe left for 3rd photo of Karla and our rescue dog Hudson in front of the Ana ing Blondie
