"Platters That Matter: James & Karla Murray’s Vinyl NYC" Robert Barry 18 October 2025

Thank you The Quietus!

"For their latest book project, Vinyl NYC, they’ve refocused their lens on the city’s many record shops, crossing the five boroughs to scour through dusty stacks of used wax. From reggae boutiques in the Bronx to the six-decade old Staten Island emporium where the RZA bought his first deep cuts, Vinyl NYC is a crate-diggers paradise."

"Taken across the five boroughs, the photographs feature vibrant photographs of store frontages, as well as zoomed in shots of their densely packed vinyl collections and idiosyncratic interior designs, printed alongside texts and interviews that contextualise their stories and histories."

Thank you to long time friend Steve Reed for sending this to us from the New York Times.

The late Neil Kraft, Visionary Adman Who Sold ‘a Mood and a Lifestyle with our oversize coffee table book "STORE FRONT: The Disappearing Face of New York" on his coffee table.
His ads for Calvin Klein and others captured a fizzy moment in the 1980s and ’90s, featuring celebrities like the young rapper Marky Mark wearing nothing but underwear and a grin.
