D'Auito Bakery on Eighth Avenue in Chelsea was founded in 1924.

When Mario D'Auito took over the bakery from his father in 1977, he "decided to specialize in cheesecake." When we interviewed Mario in 2008 for our book "Store Front:The Disappearing Face of New York", he told us that he bakes around 40,000 cheesecakes a day and then flash freezes them and ships them worldwide.
