As July 4th 🇺🇸 is approaching, we wanted to highlight Uncle Sam’s Army Navy Outfitters in Greenwich Village.

This store specializes in new and used military surplus, but sadly is closing its West 8th Street location due (according to the manager) to a high rent increase and the fact that foot traffic has declined along the street, which is littered with many empty storefronts. They are currently selling off their inventory for up to 90% off.

We want to especially thank Fernando Luciano and the entire team at Unique Copy Center and Unique Visuals NY for not only giving us invaluable advice on how to print our near life-size #momandpopsles storefront photos but Unique also fabricated and gorgeously printed them on dibond panels and professionally installed them.

It is especially fitting that Unique Visuals NY did this work for us because they are a small independent business located in Greenwich Village and thereby not only are we helping raise awareness of mom-and-pop stores but also giving back by supporting a local small businesses.

"Mom-and-Pops of the LES" Tour with Untapped Cities Insiders!

We are so excited about our NEW walking tour for Untapped Cities Insiders. We are looking forward to touring one of our favorite neighborhoods and visiting stores new & old and remembering those that are gone. Lots of foodie shops and pretty much everything else. Untapped Cities Insiders is well worth joining! We have had some of our most fascinating tours/explorations of usually off limits sites with them. We hope to see you this Friday deep in the Lower East Side! We will also be visiting our installation in Seward Park of course and will be discussing the process and motives behind the 12 foot x 8 foot x 8 foot structure.

Experience activism and community through the lens of photographers, as they display their work from two free 2018 workshops with acclaimed photographers and award-winning authors Karla and James Murray. In two sessions at the Neighborhood Preservation Center, the famed duo taught participants how to use photography and oral history to raise public awareness, build community, and encourage advocacy. Participants learned to create their own powerful photographs of neighborhood storefronts and connected with proprietors through interviews.
