We were thinking about things that people (and kids) can do who are stuck at home and working on a scale model is definitely a fun activity.

When we took this HOBBY SHOP photo in 2010 for our book, “Store Front II- A History Preserved” we interviewed the manager who told us that the owner built model planes ✈️ and cars 🚗 as a hobby before opening the store but that they “now specialize in radio control cars and sell parts and do repairs but we have a full line of other hobby items too. Many of our customers have been coming here for years and often now even bring their grandchildren in with them.” We not only loved hearing about the history of the shop but also fell in love with this #hobbyshop original #signage with its model train 🚂 and plane.

Russ & Daughters Cafe was opened in 2014 on the 100th anniversary of the original appetizing shop.

This lovely café is featured in our BEST JEWISH FOOD NYC YouTube video.

The 4th-generation owners of Russ & Daughters, Niki Russ Federman and Joshua Russ Tupper, opened the café as a way to give customers who had patiently waited in line at the store a place to sit down and enjoy all of their specialties including smoked salmon and bagel 🥯 boards, and herring, caviar and egg dishes. •

br /> We also watch again (as we visited this spot in 2019) the step-by-step process of the perfect bagel, smoked salmon, cream cheese, tomato and onion sandwich being lovingly created by Herman Vargas, the long-time manager at Russ & Daughters Appetizers (who recently retired).
