In this WYNWOOD MIAMI STREET ART, FOOD & GRAFFITI tour we visit the vibrant neighborhood of #Wynwood, which has more graffiti and street #art than anywhere else in the United States.
We check out many of its amazing graffiti and street art murals, eat at a world-renowned kosher bakery and a Mediterranean cafe and also visit a long-standing mom-and-pop clothing business that has withstood the pressures of gentrification in this #Miami neighborhood.
We also spend time with Renda Writer a local handwritten artist as he paints a "LOVE" mural in Wynwood.
Graffiti and street art murals in Wynwood cover a vast area from NW 6 Ave to NE 2nd Ave between NW 36th Street to NW 20th Street.
Food, shops and places we visit in WYNWOOD include:
1. Zak the Baker: 295 NW 26th Street, Miami Florida
2. Renda Writer live painting at LOVE mural wall at 65 NE 27th Street Miami
3. Wynwood Walls: 2520 NW 2nd Avenue Miami, Florida
4. Noa Cafe: 2711 NE 2nd Avenue Miami, Florida
5. 004 CONNEC / DADEWEAR: 594 NW 26th Street Miami, Florida
6. Austin Burke: 2601 NW 6th Avenue Miami, Florida with Alec Monopoly
Our rescue dog, Hudson comes along with us as we travel around Miami sampling street food and looking at graffiti and street art!

To join in on the celebration 🎉 of Fat Tuesday yesterday, we are highlighting Fat Baby, a nightclub and music venue 🎶 on Rivington Street in the Lower East Side.
Just like many places in New Orleans during Carnival, this spot was loud and noisy! We loved its neon and its graffiti/covered facade.

A few days ago, an appeals court upheld a $6.75 million judgement against real estate developer Jerry Wolkoff, who whitewashed 5Pointz, the former graffiti-covered industrial buildings and illegally destroyed the building’s colorful murals.
The graffiti artists who had painted colorful work on the building’s exterior facade and rooftop filed a lawsuit in 2015 against Wolkoff, claiming their artwork was of “recognized stature” and protected by the Visual Rights Act.
We knew many of the graffiti artists who painted at 5Pointz and documented their artwork for our “Broken Windows: Graffiti NYC” book and “Burning New York” book including 5Pointz founder, Meres One @meresone and the legendary graffiti artists Lady Pink and her husband Smith.

Photography and video from our visit to Veselka :: Beceлкa for 6sqft, including the process of making pierogi from start to finish!
Full article: https://www.6sqft.com/pierogis-borscht-and-ukrainian-history-behind-the-scenes-at-east-village-restaurant-veselka/
"21,000 pierogis, 2,500 latkes, and 110 gallons of borscht–that’s how much Veselka is serving up each week. But it’s impossible to quantify how many memories have been made at the famous East Village Ukrainian restaurant, which has been in operation since 1954. Whether it’s grandparents who remember going to what was then a small candy shop and newspaper stand at a time when the East Village was a thriving Eastern European community, or counter-culture icons of the 1970s, or club kids of the ’90s, or the NYU students of today, you can bet that nearly every New Yorker has some story of enjoying a meal at Veselka."

Jephson Drugs in Coral Gables, Florida
Jephson Drugs in Coral Gables, Florida has a gorgeous #neonsign which was installed in 1940 when the Jephson family took ownership of an existing pharmacy located on Ponce De Leon Boulevard in the Coral Gables neighborhood of #Miami.
Because "Coca Cola" is a trademarked name, the Miami Florida branch of the Coca Cola Bottling Company leased the #signage to the drug 💊 store. The pharmacy moved from its Ponce de Leon location in 1979 and could not take the huge and heavy #neon sign with it.
Thankfully the Coca Cola Bottling Co. @cocacola arranged and funded its removal and donated it to HistoryMiami Museum in downtown Miami @historymiami where it is presently on display!
• We were lucky enough to get a personal tour of this wonderful museum with the Executive Director, Jorge Zamanillo. Not only is this incredible @coke_archives #signage on display (you can walk around it and see it from both sides) but the HistoryMiami Museum also has on display the neon “B” from the original Burdines store which was located in downtown Miami and many other interesting artifacts and archival items including the Spitz projector from the former Miami Space Museum , a historic Seminole dugout canoe 🛶 and even a Haitian boat and a Cuban raft that brought refugees to Miami. We highly recommend visiting!

Sanchez Cigars on West 30th Street in Manhattan specialized in handmade #Cuban cigars.
We loved its hand-painted window lettering and especially the adorable cigar caricature waving 👋 with white gloves on!
• • We just visited a wonderful Cuban cigar shop in the Little Havana neighborhood of Miami, which also specializes in hand-rolled cigars, while filming our MIAMI TASTE OF CUBA: FOOD TOUR & CULTURE YouTube video and found it that it takes more than a year and a half to become a cigar roller in Cuba.

The Little Havana neighborhood of Miami is about the closet you can get to #Cuba🇨🇺 both in a figurative sense and geographically without actually leaving the U.S.A.
We spotted this gorgeous Almendrones, which is what a #vintage car is called in #Cuba while filming our MIAMI TASTE OF CUBA: FOOD TOUR & CULTURE YouTube video.

With Valentine’s Day coming up in 2 weeks, we started thinking about the restaurants where we first went on dates many years ago and one of them was Gino’s on Lexington Avenue.
This restaurant was opened in 1945 by Gino Circiello. Gino's specialized in moderately priced #Italian 🇮🇹food 🍝 and was known for its tomato-red wallpaper printed with 314 leaping zebras 🦓 . Ed Sullivan and Frank Sinatra often dined at Gino's aka Gino of Capri.
Gino passed away in 2001 at age 89 and his long-time waiter, Salvatore Doria, took ownership of the restaurant along with the chef, Michele Miele.
Sadly, they were forced to close the this historic restaurant in 2010 when their rent was increased by $8,000 a month to over $30,000 a month.
A cupcake cafe with an ATM-type cupcake dispenser (Sprinkles Cupcakes) took over the #storefront.
• • Please let us know what special NYC restaurant or bar you first had dates with or met your current sweetheart 💕.
If we have a photo of it (and we have thousands of restaurants and bars in our collection) we will post it and dedicate it to you and your loved one!
